How do i open the hood of my 1988 bmw 740i?

by Reed on December 9, 2009

I left the lights on and my battery has run down. The locks on this car are electric so now i cant get into my car to open my hood to replace or jumpstart the battery. I was wondering if there was an alternate way to get my hood open or somehow get into my car without really taking anything apart.

PLEASE USE YOUR KEY AND OPEN THE TRUNK.
THE BATTERY IS THERE.ONCE YOUR JUMP START OR REPLACE NEW BATTERY,YOUR ALARM SYSTEM WILL TRIGGER.PLEASE KEEP YOUR REMOTE AVAILBLE TO STOP THE ALARM.
YOU WILL HAVE TO LOCK YOUR TRUNK MANUALLY AGAIN BEFORE U CAN USE THE REMOTE CONTROL WITHOUT PROBLEMS.
IF CAR DOEST NOT START,INSERT YOUR KEY AND ONCE U SEE THE LIGHTS APPEAR ON CLUSTER,U PRESS THE RESET BUTTON MANUALLY.
NOW START THE CAR.ONCE STARTED.YOU CAN OFF THE ENGINE.COME OUT OF YOUR CAR AND LOCK YOUR CAR WITH REMOTE.AGAIN OPEN AND THEN YOU START YOUR ENGINE.
IT SHUD START WITHOUT PROBLEMS NOW.
GOOD LUCK.

You mean you can`t open the doors with the key? I think the battery is in the trunk on this model.

Battery on the E38 is in the trunk. You should be able to open the trunk with the key and then replace the battery.

It should be on the right hand side of the trunk next to the jack.

Umm, if you can’t open the hood, you should NOT be driving!
