Spray them down with WD-40 and let it soak for a minute. Then rub it off with a soft cloth. The WD40 will also help keep the brake dust off the rims and easy to clean.

There are a number of different wheel cleaners on the market. I’d suggest contacting your dealer and asking them which one they use. You may be able to buy it directly from them – the dealership I worked at (not BMW, sorry) used to sell any product that we used ourselves. Our customers knew they could trust these items since we had experience using them on our new and used vehicles.
PS the common brands you’ll find are Eagle1, Mothers, Turtle Wax, Armour All, Mr. Clean, etc…

Just get wheel cleaner…that’s what it’s meant for. If they’re stubborn (and your rims aren’t painted) try brake cleaner, but clean it off with water right after you try scrubbing. If that still doesn’t work, there are things like Bam, Purple Power and Orange Glo that are some pretty tough cleaners.

damn, that happens to me too. and if you don’t keep it clean, it will damage the finish. I found this out the hard way. p.s. – it’s cuz you’re a speed demon, and you’re going to spend a lot of money on brakes if you don’t change that…..i do. Brakes and speeding tickets….
