Make: BMW
Model: 525i
Year: 1990
Mileage: 125000 Kms. (78000 Miles)
I purchased the car recently. The Exhaust of the car makes too much sound. What could be the reason? do I have to change that or Is there any leakage from the exhaust pipe? Any suggestions would help.
Thanks.
Saabir.
Go to a reputable exhaust place, one that you might know of that won’t say replace as soon as you walk in. Have hem inspect, and request they show you what they find. If mufflers noisy, then most likely will need replacing anyways.

Check where the noise is coming from. Does it make a puttering noise?? Uneven and not much of a flow?? Also if you smell fumes or have heat coming off from other spots, you might have an exhaust leak.

I had an exhaust leak on my 1997 Eclipse GS.

Usually on those early 90s models they have that sound….the muffler is designed that way….

Try changing the muffler.

More than likely your muffler has holes in it from corrosion. Look under and check.
A new muffler shouldn’t be expensive at all (~$160). You’ll notice the improvement immediately.
