I am looking for bmw parts?

by Reed on December 13, 2009

I am a mechanic and I am gonna do a friends brakes(rotors, pads) and he also needs the tie rod ends done. He has a 2001 bmw 740li.
Does anyone know where I can get aftermarket parts for it? I am used to working on audi’s so I am not exactly sure where to get bmw stuff. He needs the pads with the sensors in them.

Thank You

Like the guy above me, Bavauto.com is the place to go for aftermarket parts. Or if your friend has big money to spend, Dinancars.com offers all of Dinan’s aftermarket parts, and unlike other aftermarket parts, Dinan parts can actually help the resale.
As for replacement parts, Realoem.com has everything you’ll need, and more. It is a very helpful site, and even has diagrams.

I want to upgrade my BMW 328CI, any parts, ideas i can use or websites i can check for the best prices.?

by Reed on December 13, 2009

I have a 2000 bmw 328ci with a manual transmission, i want to improve its performance but the engine has over 100k miles so i dont know if i can turbo my car or not. I dont have a lot money but, i want to find the best details to make my car much better

you can check out these sites if you wanna get the most for the money:

bavauto.com
modbargains.com
umnitza.com (they are mostly for angel eyes but they also have some cold air intake)
Ebay (sometimes you can find some good stuff)

6cyl engine could be supercharged but its a lot of $$$ ESS superchargers have them for your car but its like 5000 bucks i think.. in my opinion too much

Go for the easy stuff like cold air intake, maybe a dinan chip and a good exhaust. i personally like Remus Exhaust, its the best.. i put one on my 528i, same engine as yours… big difference and sounds good.
all these should increase your HP like 15%

bmw 330/bmw m3 aftermarket parts?

by Reed on December 13, 2009

okay the same aftermarket parts that could be used for the bmw m3(2001-2005)
could the same aftermarket parts be used for the bmw 330ci(2001-2005)?

the same parts could used as in cold air intakes and mufflers, but as in engine parts no, because the m3 has different motor internals as the 330ci

Trying to find a place to buy 1999 oem bmw parts.?

by Reed on December 13, 2009

I have a 1999 528i bmw. I just bought last week or so used. I just noticed that the rear ac console is missing the back plastic around it. The ac duct and output is still there but the housing around it is missing. I just need that part to pop in and I’m good but can’t find any where online with a straight answer. Thanks for the help in advance.

The best thing you should do is to buy a spare used ‘99 bmw 528i. It may contain every part that you may need just in case you need to replace some parts. Take the spare car apart and use its parts whenever necessary.

Used BMW Maintainability ?

by Reed on December 13, 2009

hello,

I am planning to buy a used BMW. Not very old but three to four years old.I heard that maintenance would be high for BMW as its parts are all imported. also not all mechanics can fix it so you have to go to dealer every time.

but I do see old BMWs on road. So it might not be as bad after all
What are my options..
Should I buy certified one with warranty up to 100,000 miles etc?
is it really that expensive?

Please advice,

I have owned two used BMW’s (still have one to this day). I restored my 92 735 almost completely with the new drivetrain and other things.

After I got it into top working condition which was very very expensive, i have been doing proper maintenance over the last 4 years and I can tell you how it could cost. First of all it is extremely rare to see a properly maintained used BMW on the road unless it belonged to an adult car enthusiast or a pro mechanic.

First thing is older auto transmissions. It will most likely need to be replaced. They require special maintenance that dealers do not provide unless you pay them for it as a repair on a hourly basis. This replacement will run you around 5K unless you can do it yourself.

Annual tuneup will run around $800 in parts only if original good parts are used. Every 2nd or third year it will require a more extensive tuneup that will run about $1800 in parts (this one will include valve adjustments, brake replacements and some bushing replacements).

Besides general tuneups you will need to spend another $1000 or so a year on regular care like coolant flushes, detailing, miscellaneous replacements that will be required with a used BMW. Due to its high performance suspension built on a subframe it also requires maintenance if you want it to ride like any BMW should. On average you will spend 2K a year to maintain it, sometimes more.

If you are planning on using it for performance driving (not on the street) – the amount will go up dramaticaly (up to 10K per year a minimum).

In any case – if the used BMW is more than 5-7 years old you have to prepare to spend no less than 5K to get it into a proper shape so have it allocated.
