I have an 87 BMW 325i. It’s making grinding noises in 1st gear and 2nd real bad very little in 3rd and not at all in 4th or 5th. Is this an issue with the clutch or should I plan on buying a new tranny as well?

I now have a 05 Infiniti G35 sedan with auto (impossible for me to find in manual!!!). My buddy was talking about the auto trannys in some Infiniti models being somewhat like a snowmobile clutch. This was in response to my asking him why he thinks it would lag so much going from 1st to 2nd in manual mode. He wasn’t sure if the g35 used a similar tranny. He has a 330i in auto and when he uses manual mode on it there isn’t as much lag. Just wondering if anybody has a comparison between the transmissions or where I could find one as I am very curious.
